Hands on Ice Cream Sandwich for Samsung Vibrant.
The beta version of ice cream sandwich is finally out!!! i tested beta version 3 and 4 and I wanted to share some helpful information’s that could help you decide whether to test the new Platform created for Android devices.
First of a short trivia: did you know that ice cream sandwich is a cross platform for smart phones and tablets. As you all know gingerbread was developed for smart phones and some tablets like Samsung galaxy tab’s P1000 after the galaxy tab the release of honeycomb started a new trend for Android tablet devices such as motorola Xoom, LG Gslate, Samsung galaxy tab 10 inch and the playbook. So ice cream sandwich is made both for smart phones and tablets.
Vibrant gets beta project ice cream sandwich well it’s not yet perfect but compared to most of the other devices I think Samsung has one of the most decent beta releases forice cream sandwich.
Here is a list of whats working for the device.
- phone calls - wifi - Bluetooth - sms - 3g - camera
I think the most basic functions are available to be used for the beta version of vibrant. However there are two basic functions that are still not available for this device.
1. GPS
2. flash player which will also be released by adobe for ice cream sandwich.
Notable Changes:
1. well one of the evident changes that you will enjoy in ice cream sandwich is the snappyUI with smooth animation as compared to honeycomb. 2. even the contact menu is very different from it’s former standard UI. 3. sms was also very pleasing to read. 4. now gmail attachments are more visible than the former gmail UI. 5. even the settings UI have changes that are quite remarkable. (Well there are a lot more changes that might be best for you to try it for yourself).
Improvements made from beta 3 to beta 4.
- major fix made with battery efficiency incorporating juice defender and removing nbtask killer.
- cpu manager incorporated also.
- incorporation of file manager which is a much simpler way to manage your files.
Apps tested that are not working for ice cream sandwich.
1. viber
2. qloud video client
3. adobe Photoshop touch
4. friendcaster
5. some force close on Audiogalaxy Ii will update this as i pursue testing the device)
Here is what i did to install ice cream sandwich for t959.
1. restock my device with AIO toolbox
2. downloaded ics beta rom version TEAM INFINITY.
3. downloaded kb5 modem a recommended
4. put files on internal sd
5. wipe system, cache and dalvick
6. flash ics beta ver 4
7. reboot system and let it sit for 15 mins
8. reboot to recovery flash kb5
9. reboot system and let it sit for 5 mins
